Sinharaja Rain Forest is one of the last untouched forests in the world. This evergreen rain forest is a UNESCO World Heritage site and serves as a rare example of a natural rain forest. It is a wet and mysterious area filled with life and represents the largest remaining section of untouched rain forest on the island. Covering just over 11,000 hectares, it runs along the southern edge of the hill country in the wet zone. Its amazing variety of plants and animals makes it one of the most biodiverse places globally. More than 130 bird species reside here, including many of the 33 species unique to Sri Lanka. The forest is also home to a wide range of reptiles and countless insects, many of which have yet to be discovered. You can see mammals like the purple-faced langur monkey and the giant squirrel in this area. Walking is the best way to explore Sinharaja, as it allows you to fully experience the jungle. The tour includes a hike through the Sinharaja Rain Forest, visits to waterfalls and riverbanks, bird-watching trails, and a walk through tea plantations. It’s also a wonderful spot to enjoy nature and go for a swim.
