The Sinharaja Rain Forest is one of the last natural forests left in the world. This evergreen forest is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site and showcases a rare example of a real rain forest. It is a wet, mysterious place full of life and is the largest untouched rain forest on the island. Spanning over 11,000 hectares, it stretches along the southern edge of the hill country in the wet zone. Its incredible variety of plants and animals makes it one of the most diverse places on Earth. More than 130 bird species live here, including many of the 33 species that are found only in Sri Lanka. The forest also hosts many reptiles and countless insects, many of which scientists have not yet discovered. You can spot mammals like the purple-faced langur monkey and the giant squirrel in this area. The best way to explore Sinharaja is by walking, as it lets you fully experience the jungle. The tour includes hiking through the rain forest, visiting waterfalls and riverbanks, bird-watching trails, and walking through tea plantations. It’s also a great place to enjoy nature and take a swim.
