The Sinharaja Rain Forest is one of the few natural forests still existing in the world. This evergreen forest is a UNESCO World Heritage site and represents a true example of a rain forest. It is a wet and enchanting area brimming with life, making it the largest untouched rain forest on the island. Covering over 11,000 hectares, it runs along the southern part of the hill country in a rainy region. Its amazing variety of plants and animals makes it one of the most diverse locations on the planet. More than 130 bird species live here, including many of the 33 species that are unique to Sri Lanka. The forest is also home to various reptiles and countless insects, many of which scientists have yet to identify. You can see mammals like the purple-faced langur monkey and the giant squirrel in this area. The best way to explore Sinharaja is by walking, as it allows you to fully enjoy the jungle. The tour includes hiking through the rain forest, visiting waterfalls and riverbanks, bird-watching trails, and strolling through tea plantations. It’s also a fantastic spot to appreciate nature and take a swim.
